It's the little things

My boy has always been the one we worried about.

He didn't crawl till after his first birthday, didn't walk till we got him in physical therapy at 18 months, and then promptly got pneumonia within our first couple of months in Korea where we had our first foreign hospital experience.

He's usually in his own world, is highly unflappable until something sparks the tears, then there are many. He's sweet and kind, loves to give kisses and hugs and is extra attached to his lovey. He's also very sensitive to other people, creative and has a great sense of humor.

Starting him in Kindergarten this year was a very hard decision. One we mulled over for a good eight months before school started, constantly questioning and wondering if we were doing the right thing.

According to our school, he's a bit young. One of the youngest in the class, in fact. And being a boy, well, those of you with boys will understand our hesitations. However, all the teachers said he was ready, he said he was ready, so we finally decided to go for it. It has been wonderful!

The Kindergartners are encouraged to show their feelings for one another quite often. My boy is always coming home with a "Caught being good" note, or "You're my friend because....." note. Yesterday, as I was cleaning out his backpack, this note caught my attention like no other note has.

Being called "Friend" is such a compliment, and being recognized for love is huge! How precious to be able to express a feeling so strongly to a friend!

I remember when Owen didn't walk till 18 m. He would just sit on the floor and watch everything. I think he is the sweetest boy I've ever met. He'll be such a ladies' man. :)
